Successful Managers

What makes a successful manager? Is it something measured in dollars or fancy cars? Perhaps a good manager is someone who is respected by not only their team members but pears and bosses. So how does one become a successful manager? Is one just born with certain attributes? If not, how does one attain them?

Some people may be able to work towards being a better manager but they have to want to change. Employees may be disgruntled when someone is hired from outside the company to manage them at a job they've never performed themselves. When a person simply knows how to manage, but has no concept of the task at hand problems can arise.

What if a manager tries to lead by fear and demand respect rather than trying to earn it? Employees don't respond well to fear. If they feel threatened they will become closed of and defensive. That does not equal effective leadership. Earning respect when coming in from the outside can be a long tedious process. But, if that person is a good manager, their skills will outshine the fact that they are an outsider.

When employees have a good manager they will become more successful themselves. Some qualities of a good manger are:

-          being a good communicator

-          strong leadership skills

-          able to motivate

-          good time management

If employees are having a hard time responding to a new manager, given time they will respond to good management qualities. As a business owner a great disservice is not taking hiring a manager seriously. A good manager can increase business and add to the success of not only your company but yourself.

Successful managers can be groomed and learn skills and good management techniques. Some managers start off lower in the company and work their way up. Phil Thow Scottsdale Arizona
